Console Based Menu
Java imports allow user input and console output to be displayed in Terminal
Objects Used
- Makes Object from Scanner Class to obtain inputs / menu selection from User
- Use System Class, to call static methods System.out.print and System.out.println to output to console
- User Math Class, to call static method Math.random() to generate random number
Other College Board Topics
- A 2D array is used to store COLORS
- A Control Structure, Switch, is used to process Menu select to code that performs related action
Key PBL Topic
- Menu class when instantiated with new Menu() takes over Frontend experience with user. This is relevant to Draw Lab in this article and how Spring Boot works in Web programming. Objects are intended to encapsulate Frontend, Backend or experience … Web Site control flow, Database CRUD operations, or a Menu in terminal (this example)

Desktop GUI Menu
Swing and AWT imports allow Java to provide a Graphical User Interface on the desktop.

- Explain where a Class is defined
- Explain where an instances of a Class is defined
- Explain where an object is Calling a Method
- Explain where an object is Mutating data
- Describe Console and GUI differences differences.
- Build a new Console or GUI menu for your FRQs. This allows sharing a single project with each person working on a different FRQ, The menu visualization and organization can make it easier for team to present in a unified manner.

Object Superclass
Learning Targets:
- What is the Object class
- Why is the Object class important to remember
Every class and object created without the extends
keyword will be implicitly extended from the Object Superclass. This means it will inherit some basic methods. Some notable methods are:
getClass()
toString()
equals()
So What?
Well its important to keep in mind when writing out your class. If you are planning to have a method in your class/object that matches the basic Object, then it must be a public override
because all of the Object methods are public.
- are some methods from Object such as getClass() that you cannot override.
// this will return an error
class Shape {
String toString(){
return "Shape";
}
}
// this will be fine
class Shape{
@Override
public String toString(){
return "Shape";
}
}
Popcorn Hacks
Create an example where you execute an unchanged method from Object, then execute a different method from Object that you changed.
Introduction to Inheritance in Java
Inheritance is a fundamental concept in object-oriented programming (OOP) that allows one class (the subclass) to inherit fields and methods from another class (the superclass). This promotes code reusability and establishes a natural hierarchical relationship between classes.
Key Concepts of Inheritance:
- Superclass and Subclass:
- Superclass (Parent Class): The class whose features are inherited. It provides common attributes and behaviors that can be shared by subclasses.
- Subclass (Child Class): The class that inherits from the superclass. It can extend or modify the behavior of the superclass and add its own unique features.
- Basic Syntax:
- To declare a subclass, use the
extends
keyword. ```java public class Subclass extends Superclass { // Subclass-specific fields and methods }
- To declare a subclass, use the
